Brian J. Turpen is a life-long resident of Bedford, Indiana. He graduated from Bedford-North Lawrence High School and attended Indiana University. He has also taken courses accredited through Indiana University School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Indiana State University, Vincennes University, Indiana Vocational Technical College and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Brian is a Major with the Bedford Police Department where he is a 21 plus year veteran. He has appeared on the television show Rescue 911 stemming from a roberry/attempted murder case. He was named Bedford’s Officer of the Year in 1993 for pulling a man from a burning building. He also received the Medal of Valor from the Bedford Police Department and American Police Hall of Fame for a carjacking/vehicle chase incident in 1997. He is Secretary of the Bedford Police Pension Board and is a three-time Past President of the Stone City Lodge #94, Fraternal Order of Police.

Brian has been a licensed official for the Indiana High School Athletic Association for over 25 years for Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Football. He is also a licensed ASA Softball umpire.

Brian has been a Hank Williams researcher for several years. He has written nearly 200 articles for several publications. He was also Publisher/Editor of the Hank Williams Fanzine from 1999 until 2001. He currently is a board member of and puts together the Hank Williams Fan Club Newsletter.

In his research, Brian has assisted numerous authors on books, assisted on CD compilations, assisted and appeared in the 2004 American Masters documentary movie Hank Williams – Honky Tonk Blues, and has assisted in projects associated with: the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, the Hank Williams Boyhood Home & Museum in Georgiana, the Cincinnati Music Heritage Foundation, the International Traditional Country Music Fan Club, Time-Life, and the Hank Williams Fan Club among others.

Brian is married to the former Jennifer DuBois, and they are the parents of a daughter, Miranda.
